The world over, we all generate waste everyday. The problem is worsened when this waste is not properly collected and disposed of. Similarly, insufficient toilets in depressed areas, as well as stagnant water, creates a breeding ground for low esteem and poor health. As a result there is a need to consider solutions that can improve the environment and people’s lives through improvements in local waste and sanitation management.
Mayflower hopes to raise US$400,000 per annum for a period of 5 years to provide Waste and Sanitation programmes in Ebute-Metta. Per annum it is hoped that up to 20,000 people in the community will directly benefit.
Although small, there will be a direct financial benefit per person if only, for example, from a reduced need for medicines to cure common sanitation driven health problems. Benefits would, of course, arise to the whole community as well as directly affected individuals.
