Throughout Lagos there is a lack of proper management of road and roadside infrastructure. In addition, there are no comprehensive plans that account for motorised and non‐motorised transport and traffic calming . As a result there is unnecessary traffic and safety difficulties. This prevents an urban community from developing effectively and needs to be addressed as part of a holistic community development programme.
Mayflower hopes to raise US$400,000 per annum for a period of 5 years to provide urban road rehabilitation and safety programmes in Ebute-Metta. Per annum it is hoped that 10,000+ people in the community will be directly impacted. There is no direct benefit that can be measured but the improved community mobilisation, safety and generated self-esteem will provide a great catalyst for all the other Mayflower programmes.
